Every word on the record, accurately and on time.
Legal, medical, media and research transcription by human transcribers, in one language or many. Timestamps, speaker labels, subtitle files and translated transcripts, delivered in the format your workflow expects.
Transcription built around how the recording will be used
A transcript for a court file, a clinical note and a documentary subtitle track are three different documents. We ask what the transcript is for before we start, then apply the conventions that setting requires.
Legal transcription
Depositions, recorded hearings, witness and suspect interviews, client meetings, arbitration recordings and police body camera audio.
- Speaker identification throughout
- Timestamps at set intervals or per speaker
- Verbatim treatment of hesitations where the record needs it
- Certificate of accuracy available on request
Medical transcription
Clinical dictation, consultation recordings, case conference notes, research interviews and patient facing recordings handled by transcribers trained on HIPAA obligations.
- Clinical terminology handled by trained transcribers
- Protected health information kept inside the engagement
- Formatting that matches your record template
- Interpreted sessions transcribed in both languages
Media and subtitles
Documentary and broadcast footage, podcasts, interviews, webinars, training video and social content, delivered ready to drop into an editing timeline.
- SRT and VTT subtitle files
- Shot and speaker change markers
- Reading speed and line length conventions applied
- Burned in caption guidance on request
Research and academic
Qualitative research interviews, focus groups, oral histories, lectures and field recordings, including multi speaker audio recorded in difficult conditions.
- Multi speaker focus group handling
- Anonymisation of names on request
- Consistent conventions across a whole study
- Notes on inaudible passages rather than guesses
Business and governance
Board and committee meetings, shareholder calls, investigations, training sessions and internal town halls, with the discretion those recordings need.
- Minute style summaries alongside the full transcript
- Action point extraction on request
- NDA covered from the first file
- Rapid turnaround for time critical matters
Multilingual transcription
Recordings in one language transcribed in that language, translated into another, or delivered as a two column bilingual transcript.
- Transcription in the source language
- Translation of the finished transcript
- Bilingual side by side layout
- Translated subtitle files for video
Verbatim or clean verbatim, decided before we start
The difference matters, and it is the first question we ask. Choosing the right style at the start avoids a re work cycle later.
Everything that was said, exactly as it was said
False starts, repetitions, filler words, stutters, pauses and non speech sounds are all recorded. This is the default for legal proceedings, investigations and any transcript that may be challenged, because how something was said can matter as much as what was said.
- Depositions and recorded hearings
- Investigative and police interviews
- Linguistic and clinical research
- Any recording that may become evidence
The same content, without the noise
Filler words, false starts and repeated words are removed and obvious stumbles are tidied, without ever changing meaning or adding words that were not said. This is the usual choice for media, marketing, business and subtitle work where readability is the point.
- Subtitles and captions
- Podcasts and published interviews
- Meeting notes and internal records
- Content that will be quoted or repurposed
Formats, markers and file types
Timestamps and labels
Tell us the interval you need and we apply it consistently through the file.
- Timestamps at a fixed interval, per paragraph or per speaker change
- Named speakers where you supply the names, generic labels where you do not
- Markers for crosstalk, inaudible passages and recording breaks
- Page and line numbering for legal transcripts
Files we accept
Upload the recording with your request, or send a download link if the file is large.
Files up to 20 MB can be attached to the quote form directly. For anything larger, send a link and we will confirm receipt.
What you receive
The transcript in the format your next step needs.
If you work from a house style or a court approved template, send it with the recording and we will deliver inside it.
How long a recording takes
Transcription time depends on audio length, how many people are speaking, recording quality and the conventions required. We confirm a delivery time with the quote, before any work begins.
| Recording | Typical standard delivery | Rush option |
|---|---|---|
| Under one hour, clear audio, one or two speakers | Next business day | Same day |
| One to three hours, several speakers | Two business days | Next day |
| Long or difficult audio, background noise, heavy accents | Scoped when we hear a sample | Discussed case by case |
| Multilingual transcription plus translation | Transcript first, translation to follow | Both scoped together |
These are general guides, not commitments. The delivery time in your quote is the one we stand behind.
Recordings are often the most sensitive file a client owns
A recorded interview, a clinical consultation or a board discussion carries more exposure than most documents. Transcription at Layaab runs under the same controls as every other service.
- Every transcriber works under a signed NDA covering your material
- Access is limited to the transcriber and the project manager assigned to your file
- Recordings and transcripts are transferred over encrypted connections
- Files are held only as long as the project needs and deleted on request
- Medical recordings are handled by transcribers trained on HIPAA obligations
- Your content is never used to train machine systems
Questions about transcription
Do you use speech recognition software?
Our transcripts are produced and checked by human transcribers. Machine output alone misses speaker changes, mishears terminology and invents plausible words where the audio is unclear, which is exactly where a transcript needs to be most careful. Where automation helps a transcriber work faster, a person still reviews every line against the audio before delivery.
What if parts of the recording are inaudible?
We mark them. An inaudible passage is flagged with a timestamp so you can go back to the source, rather than filled with a guess. If a recording has widespread audio problems we will tell you before starting and suggest what can realistically be recovered.
Can you transcribe a recording in one language and deliver it in another?
Yes. We can transcribe in the source language, translate the finished transcript, or deliver both side by side in a bilingual layout. For video we can also produce translated subtitle files. See certified translation if the translated transcript needs a certification statement.
Do you provide certified transcripts for court?
We can supply a signed certificate of accuracy with a transcript, in the same form as our certified translations. Tell us at the quote stage that the transcript is for filing so the conventions and the certificate are right from the start.
How do I send a large recording?
Attach files up to 20 MB to the quote form. For larger files, send a download link from your own cloud storage in the message field and we will confirm as soon as we have the file.
Send us the recording and we will scope it today
Attach the audio or video, tell us the conventions you need and the deadline, and a project manager will reply with a delivery time and any questions before we begin.
